What is a Switch and types OF Switch And Function !

What is a switch

What is a Switch

The electrical device used to turn any electrical circuit on or off is called a switch such as Push Button Switch, Toggle Switch, etc. The function of all switches is to turn off or on the supply of electrons from any circuit. In our homes we find toggle switches that allow us to turn on or off all the appliances in our house as if we To start the fan, we will press the button tomorrow and it will remain pressed. Which will start the supply to our fan. And as long as there is supply in the fan, the fan will continue to run and as soon as we turn off the supply or switch of the fan, the fan will stop running.

Today in this post we will tell you what is Electrical Switch And Electrical Switch Types so today in this post we are going to give you complete information about Electrical Switch. How many types are there and which switch works? Below you are given complete information about all the switches.

How many types are Switch ?

There are many types of switches but they are divided into two categories

Switch Types

  1. Mechanical Switches: Switch Physically Moved. Those that can be pressed or shaken or touched are called mechanical switches, such as Push Button Switch, Toggle Switch, Limiter Switch, etc.
  2. Electronic Switches: Switches that do not need to be physically pressed or shaken when all the work is done by a semiconductor are called Electronic Switches.

1.Mechanical Switches

Mechanical Switches are the most widely used. All the switches used in our homes are mechanical whether it is to call our house fan or to call the motor in our house. Mechanical switches are different depending on the number of contacts, number of poles. -Distributed into different categories which are listed below.

Pole and Throw Switch

       Pole and Throw Switch

The common switches used in our homes are also Pole and Throw Switch. But the common switches used in our homes are Single Pole Single Throw Switch. So that we can send the main supply to any device. But there are more than one Pole and more than one Switch such as:
  1. Single Pole Single Throw Switch
  2. Single Pole Double Throw Switch
  3. Double Pole Single Throw Switch
  4. Double Pole Double Throw Switch

Single Pole Single Throw Switch : - They are used differently in different places like Single Pole Single Throw Switch buttons are commonly installed in our homes so that we can supply only one wire in any device. Can give.

Single Pole Single Throw Switch

Single Pole Double Throw Switch :  - With the help of this button we can operate only one of the two devices at the same time like you have two fans somewhere in your house and you want to turn on only one fan at a time. . So using this button you can make the connection of both the wings on this one button. So when the button is on one side then one fan will run and to run the other fan you have to press the button on the other side.

Single Pole Double Throw Switch

Double Pole Single Throw Switch : This button can then be used in our homes. This button can be used to ON or OFF the supply of both wires of any device.

Double Pole Single Throw Switch

Double Pole Double Throw Switch : Using this button we can easily change the connection of both wires of any device. For example, if we have to change the direction of rotation of a DC motor, then we can easily change the direction of rotation of this motor by reversing the wiring connection of that motor.

Push Button Switch :

Push Button Switch

The button that does its job once pressed is called push button. You can see it in a lot of electrical devices like calculator, motor starter, mobile laptop etc. This button can be used to close or start any circuit. It works. We see this push button in the induction motor starter and there we find two push buttons one of which the push button starts the starter and the other push button turns off the starter so there are different types which Work differently.

Toggle Switch :

Toggle Switch

You can also see these buttons in our homes. All the buttons commonly used in our homes are Toggle buttons. We have to press them with our hands and turn them ON or OFF.

Toggle switches are further divided into categories such as "Single Pole Double Throw Switch, Double Pole Single Throw Switch, Double Pole Double Throw Switch"

Limit Switch

Limit Switch

This switch is used to control its limit on any device such as if a cress is moving an object up or down then wherever you put this switch further that device Will stop the object.

This button has a NO Point and an NC Point which we can use to turn on or off the supply of any device.

Float Switches

This button is used in liquids like water oil and you can also find this switch in your water tank if you have a good water tank alarm. This switch is used to indicate the status of any fluid For example, if you want to know the condition of the water filling in a tank, you have to know when the tank is full, or you have to know when the tank is empty. This switch is used for.

Pressure Switches

The switch is used to control the pressure in any device like air filling tank to a limit then we can set that limit with the help of this switch.

Mostly used in Industrial equipment such as Hydraulic Systems and Pneumatic equipment.

Temperature Switches

This switch is used to control the temperature. If we have to keep the temperature high somewhere or keep the temperature low somewhere then this switch is used there. This switch has Bimetallic Strip which Works on Thermal Expansion principle.

Rotary Switches

This switch is used to connect one line with many other lines. Suppose there are 6 lights in a room and you want to turn on only one light at a time then you can use this switch to connect all the lights. You can do this on one switch and with the help of one switch you can turn on all the lights at different times. This Switch works like a Simple Pole Throw Switch.

Electronic Switches

Switches that do not need to be physically pressed or shaken are called Electronic Switches when all the work is done by a semiconductor. These switches are used in motor drives and HVAC devices.

In the market we see electric switches of different ratings and different sizes. There are some solid state switches like Transistors, SCRs, MOSFETs, TRIACs and IGBTs.

Bipolar Transistors

The transistor acts like a normal switch it either passes current or does not pass current like a normal switch works. .

Power Diode

Semiconductors such as silicon and germanium are used to make power diodes. Most power diodes are made using silicon to operate at high currents and high junction temperatures. It has two terminals called Anode and Cathode.

Apart from these some transistors also work as Electronic Switches.

  • MOSFET
  • IGBT
  • SCR
  • TRIAC
  • DIAC
  • Gate Turn-Off Thyristor
